Stal Edda is a household name on Vlieland. It was founded 25 years ago on a location next to the Seeduyn Hotel by Wim Gieles.15 years later, Stal Edda moved to its current location on the Fortweg, nearby the marina. This site has a barn (mostly for storage) and several paddocks that hold 25 Icelandic horses. After happily running Stal Edda for 25 years, Wim Gieles has passed on this ownership to Krista Nobel in 2006.

Krista
Krista came to Vlieland for the first time in 2001 to work at stal Edda for the summer season. In 2003, Krista moved back to Vlieland with the goal to take over the ownership of Stal Edda in a few years time. In April 2006, this moment had arrived.

In the past years, Krista has gained a lot of experience with horses and Icelandic horses in particular. When she was 10 she was infected with the horse-virus by her father and started riding at a local riding school.

After secondary school, she decided to study Animal Husbandry and Management in Delft. This practical study required the students to take several internships. In the first year, Krista did a mandatory internship at a riding school with warmblood horses, but in the second year she was free to intern anywhere, as long as it was abroad. Having come into contact with the Icelandic horse through her friend Freekje and Stal Zonneduin, she decided to go to Iceland.

This was the point of no return, the Icelandic horse stole her heart and she continued working with them. In her third year, she interned at Punktur, training young horses, teaching riding classes and taking people on trail rides. The planned 6 months turned into 10 months and in her final year at school Krista wrote a business plan for her own Icelandic horse farm.

It has been said that having only one Icelandic horse is the height of self-control. Krista bought Kjoi, one of the young horses she trained at Punktur, in the fall of 2000. On Vlieland she saw Halastjarna, a young mare, and knew she would one day be hers. In 2003, this day came, making the score two Icelandic horses. But this wasn't the end of it, and at the present day, she owns 17 Icelandics!

In addition to the horses, Stal Edda is home to several other animals. Of course, there are Bjössi and Sunna, the Icelandic Sheepdogs. They like to welcome the visitors and makes sure the horses behave themselves in the herd. Their friends Saumur and Tryggvi like to visit and join in the fun as well.
